Welcome to E2 Connect: Building bridges between research and society a networking event aimed at international academics in Finland.

Explore ways to enhance your societal engagement in Finland as an international academic while gaining insights into how Finnish media operate and how you can collaborate with them. Join us to brainstorm the format of our upcoming science communication event and connect with fellow international researchers, as well as experts from E2 Research over a cup of coffee.

Our panel discussion "Building bridges between media and international academics in Finland" will be moderated by our very own Mari K. Niemi, Director at E2 Research.

Our impressive panelists include:

Erika Benke - a seasoned multi-platform journalist and content creator, renowned for her expertise in uncovering and sharing captivating stories about Finland. With a proven track record of crafting viral content for global audiences, Erika transitioned to freelancing in Finland after a 23-year career at the BBC Newsroom in London.


Jaakko Kuosmanen - an Academy Secretary at the Finnish Academy of Science. He has been the Chief Coordinator of a national science advice development initiative - Sofi - which led to an establishment of a new science-for-policy platform. Jaakko has previously worked as a research fellow and lecturer at the Martin School and Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford. He has also worked as a science-for-policy consultant in five different continents, and he is a member of the Government Foresight Group at the Prime Minister’s Office in Finland. Jaakko is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Helsinki.


Eleanna Asvestari - an Academy Research Fellow at the University of Helsinki with a PhD in Physics from the University of Oulu. She is a Solar and Space Physics Researcher working on understanding the solar activity and its impact on planetary environments, and human activity in space and on ground. Eleanna is also a science communicator with The Science Basement, a science communication organisation based in Finland.


Annu Marjanen - a current affairs producer for Suomen Kuvalehti. Prior to this role, she held diverse positions at the Finnish News Agency STT, such as News Director and EU Correspondent in Brussels and has an academic background in political science.
